Momentary VS Latching Push Buttons: How to Make the Right Choice

2026-08-11

When selecting metal push‑button switches for industrial cabinets, charging piles and marine equipment, many buyers get confused between momentary and latching function. Choosing the wrong function will cause abnormal equipment operation.

Momentary (self‑reset) switch: It returns to the original state immediately once you release your finger. It only sends signal during pressing. It is widely used for jog trigger, reset signal and momentary start command.

Latching (self‑locking) switch: Press once to lock and keep circuit status. Press again to release. It is suitable for long‑term power on/off control without keeping pressing the button.

You need to confirm your working logic before ordering: ‑ Use momentary switch, if you only need temporary signal output. ‑ Use latching switch, if you need to maintain ON/OFF status continuously.

Both 8300 series and 8301 series metal push‑button switches support momentary and latching function. Strict mechanical life test is done for every batch. If you are not sure which function fits your project, tell us your equipment working requirement, our engineering team will give you professional suggestion.
